The mix ratio will be 50:1 ie, 20ml oil per 1 litre of petrol. Its alot cheaper than a fully synth oil and will not make any difference to engine life. too slow for a modern synthetic to be of any advantage, Although it could be an air adjust screw, but again I wouldn't think so I suspect the adjuster will be for tick-over only, its a sophisticated carb that allows you to adjust the fuel. This neatly arranged, compact and lightweight powerhouse has been a contender over 2 decades. The plug can get fouled up with burned oil, on the side of the centre insulation and track down that instead of at the tip, especially when its under compression. The KTM 350 SX-Fs 349 cc engine is an anomaly in the world dominated by 450 cc 4-strokes - but dont let that fool you. If you try and run a heavy mix of oil you are replacing petrol with oil, as the thick mixture has to go through the same carb jets.Ĭhange the plug if you suspect you have been running a rich oil mixture Is the oil it specified as a 2 stroke pre-mix? There are many types for 'Pumps only' I would expect 25/1 to be the maximum but lots drop a bit more in 'to be safe'. It will also run better with a fully synthetic two stoke pre-mix oil and you can run a leaner mix of oil - maybe 50/1 (Petrol / oil)

There's one adjustment screw on the carb that seems to have particularly easy access - is this the (only) thing I should tweak?Īnd other tips? This £15 generator is my new pride and joy, so I want to be careful not to bugger it!Ĭarefully mix the fuel and oil.
I think the spark plug is fine, so presume that just leaves the fuel mixture. And you need about 20% choke on all the time or it cuts out. It takes about 3 pulls to start, and then it runs a bit roughly. I've just bought a virtually new generator, 2-stroke.
